Speaker Bio
From a young age, Miriam was captivated by textiles and the endless possibilities they offered. She pursued her passion at Maryland College of Art, where she studied textile arts and taught herself to sew— a skill that has shaped her career ever since.
With a diverse background in the fabric world, Miriam has excelled in fashion design, quilt store management, co-owning a longarm quilting business, and serving as a textile sales representative. Today, she thrives as a Janome Educator, sharing her expertise with the sewing and quilting community. Her work has been featured in numerous publications, television appearances on Fresh Quilting, and the Modern Quilt Guild’s book, Modern Quilts: Best of the New Century. She has earned international recognition, including QuiltCon awards, a Best in Show award from the Asheville Quilt Show, and a prestigious 1st Place Blue Ribbon from AQS Paducah.
In 2024, Janome selected Miriam to lead an exchange program with Janome Tokyo, where she taught classes on the Memory Craft 9480 to world-renowned quilters, toured the factory, and explored local fabric shops.
One of Miriam’s greatest passions is empowering sewists and quilters to expand their skills beyond what they thought possible. She specializes in improvisational quilting, helping quilters move beyond straight-line designs to explore new perspectives. Additionally, she educates Janome owners on modern embroidery techniques, incorporating embroidery as a texturizing tool to create depth and dimension in her quilting work.
Miriam’s unique approach to textiles continues to inspire and innovate, blending traditional techniques with modern artistry to push the boundaries of what’s possible in sewing and quilting.
