In 2006 my kids were in school ‘till 4pm and I was ready for a change.

The problem was I didn’t know what I wanted. I enjoyed working alongside my husband Andrew at Blazing Banners. I also loved being there for my kids but they were getting older. Personally I loved to playing with yarn and the sense of community that small business celebrates.

After considering starting my own business I was taken back to fond childhood memories; my families local hardware store in El Cajon, CA and I remembered the satisfaction and connection to community. I knew what I wanted . . . a local yarn shop where all are welcome.

Why yarn? It's just like a hardware store; tools are tools no matter what your passion.

2007 proved to be the right year for Andrew and I to go forward. The name would be easy, Apple Yarns. Apples represent the great state of Washington and my Grandma made the best apple pies; Apple Pie Recipe.

2010 - we added www.appleyarns.com
2011 - Started working with Knittedknockers.org
2012 - Moved to our present location, bigger and lots of FREE parking
2015 - Andrew started working with Apple Yarns full time.
2017 - Added Apple Fiber Studio, hand-dyed yarns
2018 - Apple Fiber Studio sold in local yarn shops nationally
2019 - Embraced Monthly Subscription and Theme Boxes
2021 - Added Happy to be Home Candles
2022 - Added Online Classes and Events
2022 - Hit all major goals in January of 2022
2022 - January, started our biggest and most successful subscription, Wonderful Worsted
