Cecilia Nelson-Hurt is a proud Afro Latina who was taught to crochet as a child by her Grandma Sophie. She learned to knit many years later by calling on a combination of books and the friendly assistance of a local yarn shop owner. Known to many in the fibre community as ‘Creative Ceci’, she is a global knitting and crochet enthusiast.

In her day job Cecilia is a Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer for a global professional services firm. Cecilia has over 20 years experience working for large multinational corporations developing and executing initiatives to create equitable and inclusive workplaces.

At the intersection of passion and purpose, Cecilia combines her love for knitting with her skillset as a diversity and inclusion practitioner, executive coach and motivational speaker to facilitate conversations and workshops focused on creating a more inclusive fibre community. Cecilia is also an inaugural member of the ‘Vogue Knitting Live!’ Diversity Advisory Council and a Board member of the non-profit organization, Knit the Rainbow, an organization dedicated to supporting homeless LGBTQ+ youth.

A self-proclaimed citizen of the world, Cecilia loves to travel and ensures she visits a yarn shop wherever she goes. To date she’s visited close to 200 shops both across the USA and internationally, chronicling those travels on her ‘CeciKnitsTheWorld’ Instagram profile.
