Years ago, I taught children how to knit at the Italian School in Lagos. Some mothers enrolled alongside their daughters, and it became such a memorable experience. In fact, I taught the mothers first, and they helped break down the instructions into smaller, more manageable steps while the girls navigated their learning curve. I also remember a father whose daughter lived in the UK - he met me at a fair, bought a loom, and asked me to teach him how to use it. His goal was simple and beautiful: to return home and teach his daughters how to knit on a spool loom.
Crafts for Little Hands and Parent-Child Collaborative Projects is a gentle invitation for families to slow down and rediscover the joy of making together.
This session explores how simple, hands-on crafts can become meaningful bonding experiences between parents and children. It highlights how collaborative craft projects can create safe spaces for communication, imagination, and storytelling within the family.
During the session, we will finger knit together and explore other craft activities that encourage bonding, connection, and open communication.
Designed for parents, educators, and anyone involved in nurturing young people, this session offers practical ideas, inspiration, and a renewed perspective on how crafting together can shape not just skills—but relationships that last a lifetime.
