Description

What do a flowing cape, a high collar, or a blood-red gown say about a character and why do we, as viewers, instinctively feel those choices before we consciously register them? In this visually rich and accessible talk, we’ll explore how costume design draws from fashion history, character archetypes, and material culture to create meaning and how those same principles can inspire your own work.

From dramatic silhouettes to subtle color choices, we’ll discuss how to design intentionally and use fiber, shape, and texture to tell a story. Whether you're a cosplayer, garment sewist, knitter, or designer working in your own medium, this session will give you new tools for thinking about how your creative choices shape what your work communicates and how to use that visual language with purpose and confidence.
