Honor family memories and treasured textiles in Legacy of Love and Lace, a class devoted to transforming vintage doilies and heirloom linens into a beautiful, balanced quilt. Whether your doilies come from a grandmother’s drawer, an antique shop find, or a flea-market treasure, you’ll learn practical techniques to incorporate delicate pieces into a strong, lasting quilt.
In this class we will discuss how to evaluate vintage doilies, stabilize fragile fabrics, and audition placement so each piece can shine without overwhelming the design. Students will learn how to secure doilies onto the fabrics to incorporate into their quilt, and frame them within both full square blocks and Setting or Corner Triangles for an elegant on-point layout. We will also cover piecing accuracy, pressing tips, and ways to handle thickness differences so seams stay smooth.
Because working with heirloom textiles is always a bit of problem solving, I will share troubleshooting tips from my own experience—what to do with uneven edges, stains, size differences, or missing pieces. You’ll leave with confidence in how to adapt the design to your own collection and continue building your quilt at home.
This class is perfect for confident beginners through advanced quilters who want to incorporate meaningful textiles into their work. Come with a few doilies and an open mind—we’ll create a quilt that honors the past while making something new and lasting.
