Description

Learn how to make colors work for you in your quilts, especially when working with printed fabrics. In this interactive workshop, we will explore the fundamentals of hue, value, and saturation and discover how color relationships shift depending on placement. Using simple exercises inspired by Josef Albers’ Interaction of Color, students will see how colors can blend, compete, or visually merge, first in simplified solid studies and then directly in printed fabrics. You will learn how to read a print for its dominant value and hue, understand how scale and density affect contrast, and use background and proportion to control visual hierarchy. Through guided experiments and hands-on exploration, you will leave with practical strategies for choosing and placing prints with confidence, clarity, and intention in your quilts.
