Description

Tips and Techniques of CrochetA dozen different crocheters can crochet the same pattern, and they will all look different. Some will look more finished and professional, while others may look, well, wonky. In this class we will learn ways to de-wonkify your crochet. We’ll go over various techniques to give your creations a look that makes people think you paid hundreds of dollars at a high- end store for your professional-looking crochet creation. Throughout the class, students are encouraged to try the techniques as they are taught.

Some of the topics we will learn about are:

  • Alternate round and row starts to the starting chain, which will remove the gaps at the start of the round or row, and smooth out the look
  • Color changes in the middle of a row or round, and in between rows or rounds
  • Invisible joins for fastening off your yarn
  • Neat borders
  • How to “crochet [#] stitches evenly along the edge” (this one comes with a handout to help with any math you need to do)
  • Gauge adjustments (also with a nifty cheat-sheet)
  • Blocking techniques Students are encouraged to bring in projects that need a little help, or to have questions ready for areas they often feel they need improvement in.

The instructor will see how many projects and questions there are at the start of class and will set aside time at the end to go over them.

Students Supply:

  • Please bring your own crochet hook(s) that work with #3 (DK) or #4 (worsted) yarn.
  • Bring yarn snips
  • Stitch markers
  • A pencil or pen for taking notes
  • Any project that you would like help with professional finishing.
